Predeceased by wife Helen (Gray); parents, Ellen and Roland and brother Roland; he is survived by children, Nancy (Royden) Josephson, Jim (Chris, grandchildren, Maggie and Callum) and Jeff and by sister Shirley (Bassam Madany) and family. Bernie served in the RCAF during the Second World War as an airplane mechanic. He loved telling stories about this significant time in his life. He married Helen in 1949 and they settled in Portage la Prairie where he took over as a drycleaner in the family business. After a move to Winnipeg, he continued in drycleaning until retiring. In retirement, Bernie was an avid bowler and an active member of the ANAF Branch #283, where he enjoyed snooker and the cameraderie of other members. He valued highly his friendships, old and new, being diligent about keeping in touch. Bernie's last days were spent in the serene surroundings of the Salvation Army Grace Hospice where competent and loving care eased his final journey. Sincere thanks to all staff, volunteers, residents and friends who visited during this time. Nancy thanks her friends for the accomodation, the meals and the unfailing support during these past two months. Cremation has taken place. Friends who wish to honour Bernie's memory may make a donation to the Salvation Army Grace Hospice, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg MB, R3J 3R5 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Ave., Winnipeg MB, R3C 2B7.
